PROJECT FREEDOM

May 2001

Dear Friend of Compassion Radio:

There certainly is plenty of evidence that you believe in the activist character of Compassion Radio. Again, and again, you tell me in your letters,

          “Don’t stop doing what you’re doing…”

“Keep up your works of compassion toward those who suffer…”

“I love being part of the activism of Compassion Radio…”

“I would never have known about this if you had not told me…”

Clearly, there is a large group of you who believe in the work of “Compassion Radio” … work that is unique in all of Christian broadcasting.

Consistent with this activist ministry is our determination, during this month of May, to SET SLAVES FREE IN SUDAN.

The target of “Project Freedom” is the attempt of the radical Islamic Government of Sudan (Africa’s second largest country) to enforce Islamic

laws on the black, Christian population of the Southern part of the country. In their war against Christians, and other non-Muslim citizens in the south, the government raids villages, captures women and children, and sells them into slavery to Muslim masters.

The captives are horrendously abused, given new names, and forced to adopt the Muslim faith. This policy has been going on for more than 20 years. It is considered to be the worst human rights situation in the world today.

But there is good news! Through the efforts of Europe’s Christian Solidarity Movement, it is now possible to “buy back the freedom” of slaves at a cost of $35.00 per slave.

Our “Project Freedom” does just that!

When you give $35.00 to “Project Freedom” you ‘redeem’ a slave, and return that mother or child to their home village, carrying bags of precious flour and sorghum. Of course, $70.00 redeems two slaves; $140.00 redeems four slaves; and $350.00 redeems ten slaves! And so on

This is a great project in which a family, a Bible study group, a Sunday School class, or a Christian School can get involved.

We’ve been honored to have our global compassion outreach endorsed by such respected Christian leaders as:

Dr. Ted Engstrom, President Emeritus of World Vision

Dr. Lloyd John Ogilvie, Chaplain of the United States Senate

Dr. Luis Bush, Director of AD2000 and Beyond

Dr. Brandt Gustavson, President of National Religious Broadcasters
Dr. Dennis Mulder, President of The Bible League

Rev. Steven Haas, Director of International Day of Prayer for the

          Persecuted Church

All of these affirmations have encouraged us in our compassion efforts to…

n      Rescue and care for abandoned babies in South Africa…

n      Provide support for orphanages in three countries…

n      Shelter and feed refugees in four countries…

n      Provide Bibles for persecuted Christians in four countries…

n      Supply food resources in several famine-stricken regions of the world…

n      Secure the release of slaves in Sudan.

These desperately needed and effective projects represent the compassionate heart of Compassion Radio.

Remember . . . Jesus came to set the captives free!

Will you do His work along with us?

Join us in redeeming the slaves through Project Freedom”.

Faithfully yours in Christ,
