(BACK TO MISSION PROJECT: EGYPT)

Greetings from Cairo!

This letter I want to write to some close friends of ours. Regarding an important decision to complete the last things needed to allow us to use the orphanage for 100 children, child care center for 300 children and conference center for more than 600 people.

We have been cooperating with the architect and the contractor of the project in a very pleasant way and they have shown themselves to be partners in this faith project many times during the past 3 years.

When we look at the building and how far we have come and realize that everything until now has been paid, we can only thank the Lord for how He has supported us until today.

Because we now have run out of money, the engineers have made two suggestions. The first is to stop the work on the building and wait until grants and finances will come. And the second is to continue with a loan from the architect at 12% per year, up to an amount of LE100,000, which is a little more than one-month's work.

Stopping the work would mean that extra costs would be inevitable and the contractor has the right to change prices once they get started again. Until now we have been working with the prices of 1996. Borrowing money is also a difficult option.

We need three certificates issued by the Ministry of Social Affairs to obtain general permission to start all the activities in the building project . Up until now the different governmental offices have been cooperative with us. The certificates are as follows:

  • A certificate from the construction office (we had the approval for the building last January.)
  • Agreement from the Electricity Department. They said that they would agree on everything in the building once the fees of connection to the main local cables in the street are paid.
  • The Fire Prevention and Safety Office requires a water storage and a water pipe system around the building with valves. Also they require us to pay fees for the connection of the water system to the local water supply system

The cost of all of this will be LE335,000, which is a little bit less than $100,000

We really would appreciate your support, advice and sincere prayer for wisdom so that we know the Lord's will in how we should continue.

Yours in His service,

"Our Egyptian Friend"
