"KEY HOUSE CHURCH LEADER ARRESTED"
2 September, 2000 - (ASIAN OUTREACH CANADA - Cambridge, ON)

On August the 31st, the Public Security Bureau (China's Police force) raided the home of an important house church leader. During their search of his home they confiscated sensitive material with information about the various house churches and their leaders. Also confiscated was additional information on the recent "Back to Jerusalem" conference and information on "The Heavenly Man's Family" (top house church leaders, coming to Canada Sept. 27- Oct. 3) .

This information places many important house church leaders and the family of "The Heavenly Man" at high risk of arrest. At this point we have no idea how the police will use this information or how they will launch their offensive against these leaders.  Our China team needs great wisdom in knowing how to protect the Heavenly Man's family. House church leaders are being contacted now to make the necessary changes to elude the authorities.  Many will have to change their identities papers which will cost a significant amount of money.

200 CHRISTIANS ARRESTED IN THE LAST 10 DAYS

During the past 10 days we have received word that close to 200 workers were arrested inside China.  Just this morning we learned that the Christians in the city of "W." on China's eastern coast line are undergoing increased harassment by the authorities. Yesterday,  Friday, September the 1st, 80 workers were arrested during a training seminar. Their leader has asked us to pray for them that they would know the best way of handling this current situation.

LATEST NEWS ON THE ARREST OF 130 PASTORS

On Wednesday, August the 23rd more than 50 PSB police officers surrounded the house where a group of local pastors and evangelists were meeting with 3 overseas Chinese visitors.  25 of the evangelists were able to escape before the police finished sealing off the meeting location. In total, 105 of the workers were arrested and taken to two different prisons in the area. 70 of the arrested pastors and evangelists are facing 1-3 years of imprisonment.

The assault against this Church was the fourth by the police within the past few months. The believers are in real need of our prayers and compassion. Sister Ming the only leader of this local house church not arrested was able to give us this report.

Please join us in a global prayer chain for these workers and their families. PLEASE PRAY ESPECIALLY FOR THEIR FAMILIES. These arrests affect not only the worker but his wife and children just as significantly.
